Regards The DSL-2890AL is a new unit and thus there is very little feedback on it. I have a desktop PC 20 metres away connected to 1 ethernet port and I have a TP-Link 8 port switch on a 2nd ethernet port.
It's definetly not a deal breaker considering the speed of the wireless, but it's there if you want/need it. Hooroo :-) but thats just it if it does not do as advertised its nether perfect or worth the money or time and i would suggest anyone who gets one of this and believes they have been mislead by the non functionality return it rather than put up with what i obviously sub standard quality but thats just it if it does not do as advertised its nether perfect or worth the money or time and i would suggest anyone who gets one of this and believes they have been mislead by the non functionality return it rather than put up with what i obviously sub standard quality But it does do what is advertised and I am an extremely happy customer.
And to change to usb 3.0, it's as easy as ticking a check box and waiting 1 min for the modem to be in usb 3.0 mode. For the record I have not noticed a drop in 2.4ghz wifi performance when in usb 3.0 mode. And worse case scenario there is still 5ghz wifi at full speed. I agree people should be aware of it, but it doesn't need fixing. If you feel mislead, then fair enough don't buy it – One person being misled doesn't mean that it is sub standard quality.
Pete y, I use the USB 3.0 port but set it to USB 2.0 speed and had no problems. It really makes no obvious difference in actual use.
usb 2.0 is fast enough for streaming from and also fast enough to record to. I would rather it have 1 usb 2.0 (instead of 1 usb2.0 and 1 usb3.0), but have torrent download software built in. It is what it is – Perfect for me and I would say many others.
In the past D-Link's hardware quality has been questionable on some units and D-Link firmware support is often very poor often slow or firmware updates never come to address issues. I have 2 hard drives connected to the D-Link DSL-2890AL. I was given the option to pick a directory for dlna streaming.
I'm inclined to recommend a modem/router wireless router combo and you can get very compelling combos under 0. I could pick any single directory from either hdrive or i could choose 'root'. Don't be too technical if you have any questions :-) Hooroo Any time Zaman. If a product works and provides a reliable connection throughout your place of residence (not a Billion product, go figure) then please don't confuse a Fanboy with factual consumer responses, it just confuses them immensely :) Considering I also have a 7800NXL that means I'll be bashing myself for spending the money on this product, instead of the 2890AL. Hooroo :-) Hi there, Yes, having built-in torrent download software is possible and it is a future possibility.Where the HELL where you Zaman H, three months ago with this product? Or do most modem/routers of similar spec, not have enough processing power and/or memory? Usually it is a memory limitation as higher priority needs to be given to other features/functions of the modem router. This will be one of the main concerns in our review. There are no firmwares for the unit other than the production factory firmware from May.In testing with an ASUS PCE-AC66 3x3:3 AC card, up to 60MB/s writes were achieved to a wired host behind the 2890, consistently. No updates is also unacceptable for a flagship product, but understandable given D-Link's marketing of DSL products varies on a regional basis.MY current modem I have had for over 10 years DSL 504. I want to hook up mobiles (2), PS3, and blu-ray hhd recorder, and 2 pc's up to the modem. (if I have the modem set up at one end of the house)? I have no dead spots in my house and can use it down the street as well.
