Unfortunately, teen dating violence—the type of intimate partner violence that occurs between two young people who are, or who were once in, an intimate relationship—is a serious problem in the United States.A national survey found that ten percent of teens, female and male, had been the victims of physical dating violence within the past year and can increase the risk of physical injury, poor academic performance, binge drinking, suicide attempts, unhealthy sexual behaviors, substance abuse, negative body image and self-esteem, and violence in future relationships.
We designed these tools to align with our strategy of preventing dating abuse through Awareness, Education, and Advocacy.We hope that they will be helpful in your efforts to prevent dating violence.These printable resources, Power and Control Wheel, and video games all provide helpful about teen dating violence, it is critical that there are laws in place which provide teens with better protection from abusers as well as requiring schools to teach young people about teen dating violence.All of the resources on this page should be helpful for sharing with your local school board, state representative, or congressperson to help them understand the importance of supporting policies that will help protect adolescents from dating violence.The message must be clear that treating people in abusive ways will not be accepted, and policies must enforce this message to keep students safe.
